Lecture/Theory classes

Classes follow a 16 session schedule that follows the school districts calendar. We run both a Fall program from Sept-Jan, and a Spring program from Feb- June.  In most cases, students have lecture class once a week and also driving once a week.  Many schools also run a summer program that meets more days per week to allow the 16 sessions.

In theory classes we cover

-         The Highway Transportation system including all the parts, reasons and importance

-         Car parts, both the dashboard and car systems, maintenance and car care

-         Signs, signals and roadway markings

-         Natural laws along with the vehicle code laws

-         Distractions

-         Insurance/ buying a car

-         DWI and Drugs

-         Winter driving

-         Assessing and managing risks

-         Driving procedures

-         Sharing the roadways

-         Emergency situations

-         Current events and more

We also (depending on the district) invite different guest speakers to join us for certain topics. In the past we have had speakers from the DMV, Police departments, AAA, LIRR and some insurance companies.

All classes are mandatory, therefore NO ABSENCES are allowed. By the end of the term all classes must be made up or the students can and will receive either an incomplete or failing grade.
